InStep Dance Studios, LLC

Jilissa Cotten has a master's degree in choreography and performance from Sam Houston State University and has taught all ages and levels of ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. She has been trained in ballet, jazz, modern, Laban Movement Analysis, creative dance and body conditioning. Jilissa has danced professionally throughout South Texas and has choreographed throughout the nation. Her choreography includes musicals, classical ballets and contemporary works that have earned her national recognition.

After years of teaching, choreographing and performing, Jilissa decided to return to Corpus Christi and open a dance studio that would offer a variety of dance classes. In June 2006, she approached American Bank for financing and was directed to the Del Mar College Small Business Development Center for assistance completing a business plan and financial projections. SBDC business advisor Michael North helped Jilissa prepare a detailed business plan with cash flow projections and financial statements. After the business plan and financials were completed, she went back to American Bank for a loan and was approved. Jilissa wrote that she was grateful for the help and advice she received from the Small Business Development Center and that the business plan helped her get a bank loan.

Jilissa's dream of owning and operating her own dance studio became a reality on September 11, 2006, when she officially opened the doors to InStep Dance Studios in Regal Plaza at 5017 Saratoga Blvd. The business has created six new jobs and offers classes in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, ballroom, liturgical, musical theater, folklorico, Pilates, yoga and a children's program that includes creative movement and ballet/tap combination classes.
