In 1995, Mrs. Amaya moved her hobby out of her home to start a full-time business. Yolanda's Specialty Cakes is considered a favorite in the cakery and baked good shop industry of Corpus Christi.
Mrs. Amaya contacted the Small Business Administration for information on loans to help her consolidate business debt, acquire equipment, purchase inventory, and increase working capital. She was referred to the SBDC for technical and management assistance. Elizabeth Soliz provided business plan and loan assistance. The loan was submitted to SBA Lower Rio Grande Valley District and was approved under the SBA pre-qualification program. Mrs. Amaya presented her business plan and SBA pre-qualification letter to a bank and was turned down. Without giving up, she went to American Bank who reviewed the business plan and pre-qualification, and approved the loan. The loan has allowed Mrs. Amaya to consolidate debt and acquire assets that have only helped her expand and continue a very successful business.
Yolanda's Specialty Cakes offers various styles of delicious cakes for all occasions and a large selection of gourmet cookies, sweet breads, and pastries. In addition, the shop offers retail party goods and a wedding planning center.
