Dr. Cynthia Bridges

Dr. Bridges serves Del Mar College as the Chair of the Department of Music. Prior to her appointment at Del Mar, she served as Associate Professor of Music/Director of Bands at Malone University in Canton, OH. While at Malone, she directed the Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, taught music education methods courses and supervised student teachers. She also served as Chair of the Department of Music at Malone for three years. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Performance from Texas State University, a Master of Arts in Music Education and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

While studying at the University of Hawaii, she was a graduate assistant with the University of Hawaii Bands, where she wrote musical arrangements and marching drills for the 250 member Rainbow Warrior Marching Band and taught brass methods. In addition to her experience in Hawaii, Dr. Bridges taught for seven years in the Texas public schools where her bands received UIL Sweepstakes awards, numerous first division ratings for marching and concert performance and best in class awards at the Westlake Marching Festival for three consecutive years.

Dr. Bridges has conducted honor bands in Texas, Hawaii and Ohio, and
adjudicated concert, jazz and marching festivals. She has presented sessions for the Hawaii Music Educators Association and the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association conferences. Her other professional activities have included holding the offices of Vice-President of the Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band, Vice-President/Conference Chair of the Hawaii Music Educators Association, President of District VIII of the Ohio Music Education Association, President of the Ohio Private Colleges Instrumental Conductors Association and she is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Corpus Christi Chamber Music Society.
