Automatically Alphabetizing a List of Citations

Without having to do an inordinate amount of cutting and pasting, you can far more easily order your citations by using MS Word's <Sort> command. Use the following steps:
  1. Be certain
    1. that you have already created your citations
    2. that you have a hanging indent
    3. that your citations are double-spaced as per MLA-style.
  2. highlight all the citations by dragging your mouse through them. Do not highlight the Works Cited title!
  3. In the bar menu, click on <Table>.
  4. Click on <Sort>
  5. Now all you need to do is click on <OK> (The dialogue box should already be defaulted to Sort by: paragraph and Type: text. The ascending command should be enabled. ).
