Welcome to the Speech Communication Center (formally the Resources for Excellence in Communication Center)*

The Speech Communication Center (SCC) provides instructional resources that aid students in the application of effective communication skills. Trained staff are available for one-on-one tutoring assistance in the entire speechmaking process, which includes researching, organizing, and practicing. In addition, the SCC’s mission is to provide a non-threatening environment for clients to identify and practice effective interpersonal and group communication skills.

The SCC has multiple computers, video-viewing equipment, conversation areas, and practice/meeting rooms equipped with Destination units. Clients are aided in the creation of computer generated visuals, and then have the opportunity to practice how to effectively incorporate visuals in speech delivery. An important step in the improvement of speaking skills involves using available REC Center camcorders to practice and then self-critique.

The SCC also has numerous instructional videotapes/DVDs that cover specific communication content areas giving students the opportunity for additional clarification of information. Click here for showcase speeches and Speaking with Confidence Video Series.
