Welcome to the Reading Lab!

The Reading Lab is located in rooms 121 and 119 of the Solomon Coles Building on the East Campus.  It provides assistance to students who seek to improve their reading skills.  The Lab’s services and materials are free of charge and available to all college students as well as to adults not enrolled in the College.

Reading Lab Hours:  Students may come to the Lab at their convenience.  During the fall and spring semesters, the Reading Lab is open during the following hours:

Monday-Thursday:  8:00 a.m.– 8:00 p.m.

Friday:   8:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Saturday:  9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.


Reading Software: The Harcourt Achieve READ ON program is currently used for students enrolled in reading classes.  It is an interactive, individualized program with a focus on vocabulary, reading and listening skills, and appealing readings.

Other software programs such as PLATO and Turbo Read, a speed reading program, are available for student use.  Computers in CB-119 have internet access for students doing research for any class on campus.

Resource Materials:  Students can improve their study skills through the use of a variety of materials and videos.  There are also paperback novels available to check out for two weeks.

Tutoring:  Individual tutoring is available for students enrolled in reading classes. 

Students with Special Needs:  Zoom text software magnifies text on the screen for visually challenged students.
